The form originates from the colombin technique, an ancestral method of coiling clay by hand. The body is handmade using liquid white clay from the Iberian Peninsula. The four handles are shaped and attached by hand. Once assembled, the piece rests in a closed cupboard for at least five days, sheltered from any draft. It is the only way to prevent the handles from cracking during the slow drying. Then fired three times at 1030°C. Engobes and lead-free enamel are layered between firings. Oxides determine the final colour, moving from near black at the base to bright jade at the shoulder.
Rooted in a ceramic tradition that has shaped Morocco for centuries. Reinterpreted for the contemporary interior. No painted motifs. No repetition. Each surface is one of one.
Made by a ceramist in Salé who came to the craft through his father’s connection to the old Oulja pottery market. A place that no longer exists.
