Hand-knotted on a traditional loom in the Errachidia region, southern Morocco. Natural sheep wool from the Atlas Mountains, undyed. Cotton warp and tassels. The ivory you see is the colour of the fleece itself. No pigment has touched this piece.

Amazigh women have woven rugs across Morocco’s Atlas and pre-Saharan regions for over two thousand years. The craft passes from mother to daughter. Nothing is drawn. Nothing is planned on paper. The design lives in memory and in the hands. The raised diamond lattice on this piece is one of the oldest motifs in that tradition. A talisman. Protection, fertility, the journey of life. Not a decorative pattern. A message that predates written script.

Made using a rug beater, spindle, and studded boards. Techniques and tools that have not changed.
