Hand-knotted in Taznakhte, the Ouarzazate region, southern Morocco. 100% wool from the Atlas Mountains, the highest quality available in the region. Dense knotting, high pile, braided tassels. Dyed in tones of warm sand and camel that shift between light and shadow.
Taznakhte is the heartland of Moroccan rug weaving. The craft there is carried by women’s cooperatives who have knotted wool on traditional looms for generations. This piece is born from that mastery but speaks an entirely contemporary language. Where traditional Amazigh rugs encode meaning through symbols and motifs, this one encodes it through form alone. The surface is carved into a raised grid of rounded cells, sculpted by the density and height of the pile. The result is architectural. A textile that behaves like stone.
The texture is what defines it. Underfoot, each raised cell gives slightly, then holds. The effect is three-dimensional, tactile, quiet. A rug designed to change a room through presence, not pattern.
The technique is ancient. The vision is new. That is what makes this piece rare.
