The form began as a block of raw plaster, sculpted by hand over many days into the original. The lines are soft and structured, suggesting a torso. From that sculpture, a mould was made. White clay from the Iberian Peninsula is poured into the mould. After demoulding and initial finishing, the small ring handle is placed by hand.

The piece then rests for three days in a sheltered space, drying slowly and evenly. This step is essential. It prevents tension in the clay as it contracts.

A first biscuit firing sets the form. Then a precise mix of turquoise and cobalt is sprayed across the surface, building the gradient and the depth of tone. A final high-temperature firing reveals the blue and the crackled texture that defines the piece.

Rooted in a ceramic tradition that has shaped Morocco for centuries. Reinterpreted for the contemporary interior. No painted motifs. No repetition. Each surface is one of one.

Made by a ceramist in Salé who came to the craft through his father’s connection to the old Oulja pottery market. A place that no longer exists.
