Wheel-thrown by hand from white clay sourced from the Iberian Peninsula. After throwing, the cylinder is shaped through a full day of finishing work. Trimmed on the wheel, then smoothed by hand with a damp sponge, until the line is exact.
Dried under the sun. Then the firing begins. A first biscuit firing sets the form. A thick layer of enamel is applied and fired a second time, deliberately stopped before completion to prepare the surface. Finally the piece is dipped in a careful blend of transparent enamel mixed with copper, manganese, and iron oxides. A third and final firing reveals the result. The depth, the cellular pattern, the ivory shifting into teal: none of it is visible until the kiln cools after that last pass.
Rooted in a ceramic tradition that has shaped Morocco for centuries. Reinterpreted for the contemporary interior. No painted motifs. No repetition. Each surface is one of one.
Made by a ceramist in Salé who came to the craft through his father’s connection to the old Oulja pottery market. A place that no longer exists.
