Vessel Seafoam · £145 · Thrown vessel · white clay, transparent enamel, copper, manganese and iron oxides · 13.5 cm high · two made
The smallest piece in the collection. Thrown, finished by hand, dried in the sun and fired three times, then dipped a final time in oxide and enamel, which breaks the surface into cells of teal and ivory as it cools. Two were made, numbered one and two.
Each cylinder takes a full day of finishing, trimmed on the wheel and smoothed with a damp sponge until the line is exact. The second firing is deliberately stopped short to ready the surface for that last dip, and none of the cellular pattern shows until the kiln has cooled.
Details: white clay from the Iberian Peninsula, transparent enamel, copper, manganese and iron oxides · wheel-thrown, triple-fired, oxide dip · Salé, Morocco · 7 × 7 × 13.5 cm · 0.3 kg each · edition of two · decorative; not for food or liquids; dust with a soft dry cloth
Made in a studio in Salé, on Morocco's Atlantic coast, by a ceramicist who came to the craft through his father's connection to the old Oulja pottery market, which no longer exists.
